A*STAR Talent Search (ATS) 2009 - GOLD

Nicholas Chen, an 18-year-old student from the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, won the coveted first prize at the A*STAR Talent Search (ATS) 2009.....

... Nicholas represents Singapore at the renowned Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)[1] in Nevada, USA, next month, where he will present his research findings in the field of micromagnetics. ...

... His research addressed one of the current limitations and has potential commercial applications, such as in the manufacturing of hard disk drives. Said Nicholas, “I find quantum mechanics very intriguing. It is a challenging area of research as it involves a lot of abstract concepts. At the start, my mentor guided me through the fundamentals but soon after, I developed ideas for the research project on my own. I learnt to communicate complex scientific concepts more effectively through presenting my research findings to the judges during the competitions. I’m looking forward to receiving new insights from the established scientists at the Intel ISEF which will enable me to improve further.” ...
